During the summer, while enjoying a short break by Lake Como, I was given the opportunity to join a trip to Milan. As I have never been to Milan, I jumped at this opportunity to visit one of Italy’s most important cities and was soon stuffing sunglasses, sun cream and all other necessities into my rucksack. I was confident the guide would hand out city maps on our arrival in the city centre. But my confidence was misplaced, all tourist information offices in Italy are privately owned and do not hand out city maps to local guides. However, I was directed to the Vittorio Emanuele II Galleria and told there was an information point just inside the entrance. The galleria has 4 entrances! I wasted 30 minutes of my 2 hour stay trying to source a city map. Finally, I approached a group of tourists studying their map and they let me take a photo of it. So, at least I knew where I was – but not where to go next.
The moral of this story? I should have used my GPSmyCity app to download a city walk of Milan (there are 21 of them) and I could have used it on or off-line to make the most of my 2 hours in the city. I won’t make that mistake again and in future will check the app before worrying about sourcing a city map.

My Guided Travel Articles
I love exploring new towns and cities and since GPSmyCity started featuring my articles I have relished the challenge of planning walks that take in the attractions in each city. Since the start of our collaboration two hundred of my walks have been featured on GPSmyCity.com from cities as diverse as Siem Reap in Cambodia to San Remo on the Italian Riviera. This summer I spent time some time in Denmark exploring towns in The Triangle, part of the Jutland region. I focused on three towns in particular as each has very different characteristics. Kolding, Fredericia and Vejle are very close together they are all easily accessible by public transport. Walks through these three cities are newly featured on GPSmyCity.com.
