Point A Hotels is a relatively new brand of hotels. Introduced in 2017 it has already opened six hotels in central London and one in Glasgow with new ones on their horizon. Their hotels offer modern, well-designed rooms at a reasonable price. They suit the needs of both travellers and business people as I found out when I stayed at Point A Hotel in Shoreditch, London.

It was very easy to get to my hotel on St Paul Street as it is close to Moorgate, Old Street and Liverpool Street underground stations, Shoreditch High Street and Liverpool main line stations and near several bus routes. Stepping through the door into a modern, light reception area I was immediately greeted by a member of staff. I immediately felt at home and before going to my room I made enquiries about local restaurants. I was given directions to a restaurant known to be open on this quiet Sunday afternoon and a map was printed out for me. I went up to my room first and was immediately impressed by the large window that let plenty of light into the small room.

My room was small but so cleverly designed it did not feel cramped at all. I unpacked quickly aided by some pull down shelves and hangers on large hooks on the wall. Small shelves on either side of the bed meant I could easily find items when I needed them. And plenty of sockets in all the right places allowed me to charge my laptop, phone and camera batteries all at the same time – while I sat on the bed catching up with some work with the benefit of free WiFi. All batteries re-charged I set off to explore the local area.

I soon discovered that the hotel is close to several eateries including a vegetarian Pret a Manger as well as the recommended Book Club. I also discovered both a Sainsbury’s and a Co-Op and bought some food from them knowing that I could buy a hot drink in my hotel. Passing through reception I was greeted by a friendly member of staff enquiring about the comfort of my room. I appreciated the fact there was always at least one member of staff around should I have any enquiries. I was confident that should I need to contact reception (using my own mobile phone) someone would answer.

After a good night’s sleep and a hot power shower I was ready to sample The Brekkie. I had anticipated a light continental buffet but it was so much more. A good variety of cereals, fresh fruit and croissants supplemented by bread rolls, hard-boiled eggs and cheese meant by early-morning appetite was soon satisfied. The breakfast lounge is a very pleasant place to eat. I chose a table in small booth at the side of the room where I could eat and work in comfort – a socket by my table meant I could keep my laptop fully charged for the day ahead. Once I finished eating my table was quickly cleared and I was able to carry on working until I was ready to leave.

My first experience of a Point A Hotel was very good. I felt my every need had been catered for – a good night’s sleep followed by a nutritious breakfast. Point A seems to have thought of everything a traveller might need – including an ironing room. I was particularly impressed by the friendly, efficient staff – caring but not intrusive.
