Palanga in Lithuania is both a seaside resort and a spa town. Away from the clamour of its busy main thoroughfare, set amongst the pine forests is the Gradiali Hotel. This large hotel, also referred to as a sanatorium but manages to combine the two functions. It offers some state of the art spa treatments as well as therapies to aid rehabilitation and recuperation. The pool area is reserved for remedial therapies during the day but is open to guests from six until ten in the evening on weekdays and three in the afternoon until ten at weekends.

The bedrooms are simple but comfortable and they all have balconies.

The hotel opened a large new block in September 2017 with several new treatment rooms offering several different hydro-therapies. Other therapies include, halotherapy and magnetotherapy and there is also a large relaxation room.

As I was only there for one night and, to be honest, more interested in a walk through the pine woods to the beach I did not have time to try any of these therapies. But I did have time to enjoy a very nice meal in the hotel restaurant. It was my first opportunity to try a herbal extraction invented in Palanga known as the triple nines. It is a combination of twenty-seven different herbs. These are produced in three different varieties that should be drunk in the correct order. This was followed by a very good night’s sleep – it is really peaceful here.

How to get there
I flew to Palanga from London Stansted with Ryanair. Air Baltic also offers flights to Palanga.
