Tewkesbury Park Hotel - The Pleasure Was All Mine

Immediately on entering the Tewkesbury Park Hotel it cast its spell over me. After being shown to my luxurious Lord Hastings suite all thoughts of rushing out to explore my surroundings were abandoned as I sank onto the large, comfy sofa surrounded by a huge bay window. And there I stayed until it was time for my massage in the hotel Spa.

Tewkesbury Park Hotel is within walking distance of the pretty town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. This independent, family-owned hotel set in 165 acres of parkland has offers everything a guest would need for a memorable stay. It is a lovely walk through the grounds into the town of Tewkesbury into the centre of town where visitors will soon be absorbed by its fascinating history conveyed through a series of interesting trails.

The Bedrooms at the Tewkesbury Park Hotel in Tewkesbury

Blocks of bedrooms are linked by indoor corridors to the main building. Accommodation in the main building comprises suites named for famous combatants in the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471 that was fought in the Battle of Tewkesbury during the War of the Roses. The Bloody Meadow where this battle ended in the slaughter of many Lancastrians by the Yorkists is at the end of the hotel’s drive. I was in the Lord Hastings suite and it was spacious yet cosy. The large bay window looked out on the golf course. I enjoyed some long soaks in the large claw-footed bath in my bathroom. All the more relaxing thanks to the screen on the wall above the bath so I could watch television or listen to music.

Mint at Tewkesbury Park Hotel in Tewkesbury

I was really impressed with the layout of the restaurant Mint at Tewkesbury Park in the hotel. It has several different eating areas and can cope with large groups and couples or individuals at the same time without either imposing on the other. The staff were very attentive and always had time to chat which created a friendly ambience. There was no sense of being rushed – unusual in this day and age – which made the whole dining experience a real pleasure.

Each dish on the menu has been thoughtfully created to reflect the season and make full use of local produce. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious – the Malabari Sea Bass fish curry was outstanding. A lightly curried fillet of fish balanced on some fragrant rice. So good I repeated the experience a second time. I would have had the smoked salmon starter twice as well but decided to try the partridge, pheasant and quail galantine. I am glad I did as that too was amazing. Not a great fan of lemon meringue pie I did try the passion fruit curd pie with meringue and that was fabulous.

Lounges and Bar at Tewkesbury Park Hotel in Tewkesbury

The cocktail bar just beyond reception is central to some small, comfy lounges featuring interesting nooks and crannies surrounds the reception and bar area. It is ideal for groups of golfers who want to discuss their recent round or for individuals who want to find a quiet corner to enjoy a coffee while mulling over the latest news.

Facilities at Tewkesbury Park Hotel in Tewkesbury

A mature, eighteen-hole golf course winds its way through the grounds around the hotel and there is also a short par 3 course. The golfers will, no doubt, appreciate a beer at the Number 19 Café. Light meals are also available here in a very relaxed atmosphere. The café is part of the Health CLub complex that features an indoor swimming pool with steam room and a gymnasium. On the outdoor terrace there is a hot tub and a nestles in its own wooden building. Massages are also available in the Spa rooms inside the hotel
